Fall Into Your Best Self

Tips to Keep Healthy this Fall

Fall is here along with the temptations of holiday treats!

To help you fall into your best self, we sat down with Orangetheory fitness trainer, Cassie Palacios, to get tips on battling fall temptations and staying fit for fall. Here are her top 4 tips:

#1 Set Realistic Goals
It’s easy to get ambitious about getting into shape but its important to set realistic goals. The more realistic your goals are, the better chance you have at achieving them. For example, you can say you want to hike at least once a week and go to the gym twice a week. Once you meet your goals, it will be easy to maintain them or add to them.

If your timid about going to the gym, Cassie recommends group classes like Orangetheory Fitness that provide a guided workout with group motivation.

#2 Find an Accountability Partner
If you tell someone about your goals and ask them to keep you accountable, you automatically have a better chance of success. It’s important to create a plan for accountability. For example, you can text your friend every time you workout and ask them to keep you motivated. If you can find someone to workout with you, that’s even better.

#3 Try the ‘5AM Power Hour’
Cassie swears by what she calls the ‘5AM Power Hour.’ Many times, we don’t workout because we are too busy. Cassie recommends waking up at 5AM (or 1 hour earlier than usual) to give yourself an extra hour every day. This may sound dreadful to you but she recommends trying it for 1 week. If its not for you, then go back to your normal routine. What do you have to lose?

#4 Avoid Diets
When we want to get in shape, one of the first options we think about is going on a diet. Cassie recommends avoiding diets and focusing on choosing healthy options which are much easier to maintain. The more you can cut out processed foods, the cleaner your eating will be and you will start to see results naturally. She also recommends visiting Farmers Markets for fresh fruits and veggies now that the Arizona weather is nice!

When it comes to battling holiday dishes and treats, enjoy things in moderation. If you have set fitness goals and are accomplishing them, don’t beat yourself up for having that pumpkin spice latte or slice of pumpkin pie every now and then. The key to falling into your best self is maintaining balance.
